Top 5 Wednesday: Comfort Reads

Top 5 Wednesday

This blogging prompt is hosted by the Goodreads Top 5 Wednesday group. The original host took a bit of a hiatus at the beginning of this year, and you may not have seen many T5W prompts lately. But, it’s coming back! And I’m excited to jump in 🙂

This week’s T5W prompt is Comfort Reads

These are the books that, no matter what’s going on, will always bring a sense of safety and peace to you. Which is something we could all do with currently. They might be books from your childhood, or a really cute contemporary, but all around they’re feel good books.

1. Wheel of Time Series by Robert Jordan

Wheel of Time Series, The

I know that this is not technically one book, but this series definitely deserves the number 1 spot here. I started reading New Spring in 7th grade, and completely lost myself in the world and characters.

I know that whenever I am feeling extra stressed, or just need an escape from my life and some feel-good vibes, I can count on these books. They always give me that respite I need to refresh my mood.

2. Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

Perks of Being a Wallflower, TheThis one takes me on a ride of ALL of my emotions. It is a great read, very quick and easy, whenever I need a bit of a reminder that I am not alone. That what I feel is completely valid.

Best of YA readers, especially introverts–like me. It gives us a chance to see that who we are is perfectly good enough. We are worth loving. Gives me goosebumps every time!

I know that this is also a movie, but I HIGHLY recommend reading this book, even if you didn’t particularly enjoy the movie.

3. Eragon by Christopher Paolini

EragonThis is a beautiful book about friendship and finding yourself. I read it about 5 years after it came out, and I was a Freshmen in high school at the time. It definitely brings with it a sense of nostalgia.

It also has a detailed world with magic and dragons–so, what’s not to like? It takes me on a journey far from my own troubles and life, and I can count on finishing the novel with a smile on my face 🙂

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU WATCH THE MOVIE IN PLACE OF READING THIS BOOK! THE MOVIE WAS HORRRRRRIBLE!!

4. Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

Harry Potter SeriesI know, I know, another series! Can you sense a pattern? I really love losing myself in the books that I read. Especially when there is magic involved 🙂 This again, gives me a bit of nostalgia, as I spent practically every summer during my middle school and high school years re-reading this series (even before all of the books were out!). There’s just something about the bond of friendship between the three main characters, as well as Fred and George’s comedic wit that just hit me low in the tummy. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, as if I had these kinds of friends by my side, always.

5. The Tairen Soul Series by C.L. Wilson

Tairen Soul, The SeriesThis one is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine. It’s a beautiful blend of fantasy, magic, and romance–heavy on the romance. This series, again, transports me far away from my own life into a world of magic and amazing beauty, and hardcore friendships. But this series also gives me a huge dollop of romance… The kind of romance that I yearn for in my own life (although, would probably spurn if actually given the chance). This is the kind of romance that burns bright and hot, but also simmers under the surface. It is fiery and chaotic, but also gentle and sweet.

If I am ever feeling lonely or sad, I know that these books will cheer me right up! They give me something to believe in, as cheesy as that sounds.

What books are your comfort reads? Which ones do you know you can go back to again and again if ever you are in a bad mood to cheer you up?

Have you read any of the above books/series? What did you think? Let me know in the comments below!
