Top 5 Wednesday: Gift Wrapped

Top 5 Wednesday

This blogging prompt is hosted by the Goodreads Top 5 Wednesday group

Today’s T5W prompt is Gift Wrapped

December really is the season of giving, between graduations and religious celebrations and the excessive marketing, we give and receive quite a bit. I will be discussing 5 books currently on my wishlist.

1. The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon

Orange I’ve seen this book everywhere on Bookstagram! It’s a monster of a book with over 800 pages filled to the brim of epic fantasy and magic. As a bonus, the main characters are also queer! I have had this on my wishlist for over a year (was published in February 2019), but I think I will finally purchase it for myself this Christmas! I need a new giant book. Currently, it’s a standalone, but Shannon has expressed interest in turning it into a series.

2. Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

Six Another fantasy novel, this one is the first book in the Six of Crows series! It overlaps with the Shadow and Bone series, which is also on my wishlist, if not on this specific list. Even more exciting, Netflix is creating a TV show based on the two series! It has been approved for an 8-episode first season, casting has occurred, but due to Covid, the release date is undetermined. Originally, they had planned to have it ready by late 2020, but hopefully they’ll still be able to release it sometime in 2021! Just enough time for me to read the series before the show comes on 🙂

3. To Sleep in a Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini

Sleep I originally chose this one simply because of the author–Paolini’s Eragon series was a staple in my childhood AND I was (am) still so impressed that he could write an entire novel at only 15 years old. However, my pick has been solidified as I have seen this one featured in many bookstagram posts, as well as raving reviews. Not a huge sci-fi kind of girl (fantasy is my JAM), I’m definitely willing to try it out for Paolini.

4. Rhythm of War by Brandon Sanderson

Rhythm

Brando Sando is my GUY. I will buy anything this guy puts out. However, Rhythm holds a special place in my heart because it is the latest book (#4) in The Stormlight Archive series! I have been waiting impatiently for this series to be finished for a DECADE. Obviously, I knew going into the series in 2010 that I’d be in for a long wait (10 books are planned, and the first had just been published when I picked it up), but I love it so much I need more now!

5. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

Little

I just watched the movie adaptation on (I think?) Prime Video, and it was amazing. So heartwarming and wholesome, while also flirtatious and empowering. I enjoy classic novels–currently reading Utopia by Sir Thomas More–so I am excited to add this one to my list! A bit of tears and old-timey nostalgia sounds perfect for a holiday break! Curled up on the couch with a steaming cup of hot chocolate and Christmas lights lining my window; fuzzy blankets and socks enveloping me…

What are some of the books on your wishlist? What books do you plan on gifting others?
