Top 5 Wednesday: Brighter Days

Top 5 Wednesday

This blogging prompt is hosted by the Goodreads Top 5 Wednesday group

Today’s T5W prompt is Brighter Days

I think we can all agree that things aren’t quite perfect in the world right now, so to bring a little light to everyone’s day this week’s prompt is about books that brought a smile to your face!

1. Sorrowfish by Anne C. Miles

This was an unexpected find. A beautiful book filled with beautiful lines that seared directly into my soul. I had to keep a pencil with me as I read so that I could annotate and record the lines to keep with me forever. Definitely brings a smile to my face. AND it’s the first in a series, so I can’t wait for the others to come out!

2. The Wheel of Time Series by Robert Jordan

This is my ultimate fall back option. No matter where I am, or what part of my life; no matter how I’m feeling, this series is my silver lining. I can always count on it to bring me joy (and all the other emotions that swirl within these wondrous books). This series honestly got me through middle and high school, as well as every break up and heart ache from lost friends and opportunities.

3. A Court of Thorns and Roses Series by Sarah J. Maas

I know I’m taking a leap onto the hype train here, but I actually really did love this series–excepting the first half of the first book (that was just awful and I almost didn’t even continue the book. But I’m glad I did!). But after I got into the real part of the books, I couldn’t stop reading. Literally. I spent two days reading the entire series and had a headache from spending so much time laying down. WORTH IT. The romance is beautiful and makes me yearn for one of my own; in similar fashion–wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

4. Legend of the Stone Keepers by J.L. Trepanier

The first book in the Legend of the Stone Keepers, this is a great beginning to a YA fantasy world. For some reason, when I began reading this book, I didn’t have the highest expectations. I was in a book slump and could not seem to get out of it. But this did the trick! I was immediately cured of my apathy of reading with a giant grin plastered to my face. I cannot wait to begin the next book in the series… Which, coincidentally, I will have a review up for soon!

5. Clay Tongue by Nicholas Conley

This is a cute novelette perfect for a quick read to bolster spirits. Simple words and fantastical imagination abounds in this story, just as if we readers were young kids again, seeing the world anew. This is practically guaranteed to put a smile on your face 🙂

What are some books that have brightened your day? Any particular ones you like to fall back on when you’re feeling low?

Let me know in the comments below 🙂
