Today’s T5W prompt is Recent Purchases
Most book lovers have a hard time going too long without a book purchase. What are five books you’ve purchased recently that you’re excited to read or you’ve loved?
1. The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
This colossus of a book has been on my wishlist for a long time, and I just recently decided to allow myself to buy it! Especially with it being Pride month, I wanted to include some LGBT+ books on my monthly TBR (although probably won’t finish it before July!) I’ve heard good and bad things about it, so I’m cautiously optimistic 🙂
2. Persuasion by Jane Austen
This was a thrift store find! For 50 cents, I couldn’t pass it up. I’ve been steadily building my classic book hoard for about a year now, and I think I’m finally in the 50s! I’m also currently reading Emma, and enjoying it, so figured more Jane Austen would be a good thing.
3. The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune
This was a buddy read with one of my writing groups, and perfectly placed just in time for Pride month, too! I’ve actually finished reading it and was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it. Normally, this would not have been a book I’d choose on my own. Review later this week!
4. The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
This was an audiobook I *borrowed* from the library. A bit of a cheat for the “recently purchased,” but I think it still counts for those of us on a budget! I also finished this one and it was pretty decent, if a bit predictable. You can see my review here.
5. Save the Cat! Writes a Novel by Jessica Brody
This is a bit different than the normal ilk you find on my site, being a nonfic, basically self-help book, but it still deserves its time to shine in this list! Thanks to my writing group (again), I purchased this as I near the end of writing my own fantasy novel. I’ve only just barely begun to peruse chapter 1, but it already looks like it’s going to improve my writing a million-fold. I’m excited 🙂
I am so close to reading ‘The Silent Patient!’ There is so much good reviews for this book!
