Top 5 Wednesday: Long Series

Top 5 Wednesday

This blogging prompt is hosted by the Goodreads Top 5 Wednesday group

Today’s T5W prompt is Long Series

This prompt was MADE for me! I don’t know about you, but I love a long series, which is anything more than three books. What are your favorites?

Wheel of Time Series, The

1. The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan

Ha. You all knew this was OF COURSE going to be the first on my list. I mean, come on. It’s on basically ALL of my lists. READ THIS SERIES, ALREADY! 🙂 please. I promise, it’ll change your life–if you enjoy fantasy, that is. And relatable characters that force you to really look inward at yourself. And challenges your ability to understand right vs. wrong, good vs. evil. And guides you toward building better observational skills. And… I could keep going. Just read it. And then let me know what you thought! 15 books total, including the New Spring prequel.

Tairen Soul, The Series

2. The Tairen Soul Series by C.L. Wilson

This is a Fantasy Romance series with 5 books total. As soon as I started this series, I was hooked. It does rely heavily on the romance aspect, so if you’re looking for straight fantasy, this may not be for you. But if you love Fantasy and Romance splashed together, especially Romance where the two try not to get together, then this is for you 🙂 Full of magic, magical animals, and fae, this series is perfect for escaping our dreary real world lives.

Mistborn

3. Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson

Now, this may be a bit of a cheat, but I’m counting ALL the books within the Mistborn world, not just the original trilogy (I’m including Era One and the Wax and Wayne series/Era Two). This brings the total books to 7, although there are several more still in the works.

Metal is important in this series where allomancers swallow bits of different pieces of metal to then “burn” them in their stomach and gain allomantic powers for a short period of time. The concept behind the entire world is fascinating and the characters/plots are written so well that I keep coming back to the series–AND will wait (impatiently) for the others to come out as well!

Inheritance Cycle 2

4. The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini

A staple of my childhood, these dragon books cemented my love of fantasy and adventure. As the first book was also written by Paolini when he was but a teenager, he inspired me to become a writer myself at a young age–anyone can do it! Full of friendship and magic, the writing noticeably improves through the books as Paolini ages and hones his craft. A perfect series for any middle or early-highschooler (and even beyond!)

A Song of Ice and Fire

5. A Song of Ice and Fire by George RR Martin

I’m sure this is on several of your lists as a great, long series if you’re into fantasy. I know I am 😛 Unfortunately, I can’t comment on its overall rating, as he hasn’t finished the series yet ughhhhhhhhhh. But, still a great series, so far. Complex characters, war, gore, betrayal and love. This has everything I crave in an epic fantasy world.

Not to mention I loved the TV series (minus the last season) and that may bias me towards the books. But I like big books and I cannot lie… what else can I say?

Which long series are your favorite(s)? Do you prefer long or short series? Or standalones?
