Today’s T5W prompt is Favorite Villainess
Last year we talked about our favorite villains, so let’s give the ladies some love and feature our favorite villainesses in fiction!
1. Harrow the Ninth
I love, love, love Gideon the Ninth! And Harrow especially. She’s such a complex character that you never really get a true feel for until halfway to three-quarters of the way through the book. I’m so excited to begin reading the sequel, Harrow the Ninth so I can learn even more about her! If you’re into dark fantasy and necromancy, this is absolutely the book for you. Beware Harrow. She’ll do anything.
2. The Dark Lady
What a creepy villain… Caitee Cooper in her Silverskin novel really puts my teeth on edge and knows how to conjure nightmares. I was looking over my shoulder for demons ALL WEEK after I finished reading this book. Great story, great villainess… What’s not to love?

3. Moghedien, Lanfear, Graendal, Semirhage, Mesaana
You know I had to include all the female Forsaken in the Wheel of Time series. I mean, come on. They’re petty, evil, conniving women that simply cannot get it together for the sake of winning as a team. Or… can they? I love seeing the power they wield and how exactly they use it. …As long as my main septet remain unscathed, that is!
4. Queen Elara
Ah! I totally forgot about this book until I stumbled upon it in my Goodreads “read” section. Ohmygosh it was good. I’m always a sucker for classist societies in fantasy, especially if/when the underdog rebels and comes out on top! There is some question over who the main villain/ess in this book, but I’m choosing to go with Elara. I just simply hate her with a passion.
5. Carissa
This may be a bit of a stretch, but I’m considering Carissa to be the villainess, simply because having that constant reminder of his dead fiancée detracts from the rest of his life… He is unable to move on. This was such a wild ride of a book, where a tech company is able to “bring back” little snippets of who your loved ones were, ostensibly to help you earn closure. But… there are some pitfalls. Highly recommend this book! Whether you agree that Carissa is the villain or not.

I think my all time favourite villainess is Melisande Shahrizai of the Kushiel books. She’s clever, she’s charming, she’s ruthless, and she’s so sorry (but not sorry enough) about the terrible thing she’s about to have done to you but she absolutely has it rationalised within her grand schemes.

Ooo she sounds intriguing! I have never heard of those books, so I’ll definitely have to add them to my ever-growing TBR 🙂
