Book Review: Lagoonfire

The past can be a difficult thing to escape... Decommissioner Thirty-Seven is not the most conventional decommissioner at the Ministry of Divinities, but she takes her role of helping fading gods to retire seriously-and feels bad when things go wrong. Take the decommissioning of Laloran-morna, former god of warm ocean waves: she botched that, somehow, and now he spurts saltwater when upset. When seawater invades a development project in Laloran-morna's old haunts, suspicion naturally falls on him. But is the retired god the source of the problem? Or is it the work of a mortal saboteur? Searching for the answer to these questions brings Thirty-Seven face-to-face with a past she'd rather forget.

Book Review: Spooky Action at a Distance

Lt. Naiche Decker has finally found a place to call home--complete with the father she never knew--on the ship he commands. Now her new home is going on a rescue mission to the farthest reaches of known space to look for a missing scientific expedition. Did the odd phenomena they were researching claim them or are they still lingering out there, just waiting for help to come? This sequel to We Have Met the Enemy continues Lt. Decker's story as well as those who also serve about the Lovelace.

Book Review: The Wolf’s Tooth

So far, the book seems to like it'll be a pretty easy and quick read. The writing style is reminiscent of Tolkien's The Hobbit with the writer taking a direct role in explaining to the reader what is going on, and making corrections as necessary. It also has that faint fairytale-esque feel to it. The prologue and first chapter are both relatively short, so I haven't seen much of the plot or character(s) just yet and can't really comment on them, but I am excited to continue this journey and see what happens!

Book Review: Wisdom Lost

The second book in Pandemonium Rising, Michael Sliter continues to both torment and awe his readers. The characters have grown, but that may be the only glimpse of hope in this gods-forsaken book. With each passing page, there is a new betrayal, a new obstacle, a new sacrifice waiting to be made. And yet, our protagonists continue to prevail.

Book Review: The Void Mage

Bannen and Rena have lived with Mary, the Void Mage, for the last 2 years, training and learning more about each other. But now, they are ready to go out into the world on their own, taking on their own jobs and moving into their own house. They do this by taking on the individual shards of Toh'sellor, until the MISD decides to offer a temporary contract to work for them. Bannen and Rena team up with a pair of agents, basically their mirror images, and fight alongside them, ridding the world of pieces of Toh'sellor, one shard at a time. But it's not long before they realize that they'll have to go after the real deal if they have any chance of keeping the world safe from its chaos. Can Rena's magic defeat the biggest threat the world has ever faced? Can Bannen keep her safe while she tries?

Book Review: A Single Light

In this thrilling sequel to The Line Between, Tosca Lee continues to astound readers with her gut-wrenching plot twists, complicated romance, and amazing suspense. At the beginning of this book, our protagonist Wynter and her dreamy love interest Chase have just been sealed off from the rest of the world in Noah's nuclear bomb-shelter silo with 60 other people, Julie, Lauren, and Truly included. Still wanted for murder and potential terrorism, Wynter must continue to hide her identity even now. Maybe once the silo opens up in 6 months, she can run away with Chase and Truly and live happily ever after. But even that dream is dashed as tensions rise in the silo, and Julie is gravely injured. After the silo opens up, Chase and Wynter must traverse ghost towns, sick and desperate humans alike, and even a corrupt, mafia-like governance system in order to find the IV medications that Julie needs before time runs out. Can she survive--not only physically intact, but mentally?
