Top 5 Wednesday: Best or Favorite Caretakers

Top 5 Wednesday

This blogging prompt is hosted by the Goodreads Top 5 Wednesday group

Today’s T5W prompt is Best or Favorite Caretakers

Shoutout to all the doctors, apothecaries, and caretakers in fiction who help take care of those who are sick or injured! Let’s show them some love today and feature some of our favorite caretakers! But I gotta be honest, y’all… This one was hard.

Plague

1. Dr. Bernard Rieux

The Plague by Albert Camus

This guy worked tirelessly, despite having little resources and little help from others (at first), to help those sick with the plague. He risked his life. And even though his wife was outside of the quarantine zone, he still dedicated his life to those inside. He definitely deserves a round of applause.

House in the Cerulean Sea

2. Arthur Parnassus

The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune

Honestly, this book is so adorable. And Arthur is part of that cute factor. He takes care of the orphaned children with various abilities, and becomes basically a dad figure for them. He is amazing. Super genuine, super kind, super super.

night

3. Odrin

The Night & Its Moon by Piper CJ

This was a popular BookTok sensation, and I admit that I gave into it. I’ve read this first book, but have yet to continue the series. There is some controversy surrounding the story and Piper CJ in general, but I did enjoy the book. Odrin, I am classifying as a caretaker, since he basically took in Amaris and taught her how to fend for herself. I mean, who wouldn’t swoon for a soft-hearted assassin?

Verity

4. Jeremy Crawford

Verity by Colleen Hoover

Now, Jeremy is probably not a good caretaker, but he is one of my favorite, just because of all the twists and turns. You never really know what’s going on in this book, even at the end. Did Jeremy really love his wife, Verity, whom he had to take care of after a horrendous car accident? Or… was something more sinister going on?

Lord of the Rings, The

5. Samwise Gamgee

The Lord of the Rings trilogy by JRR Tolkein

Again, I said this prompt was hard. Samwise probably doesn’t exactly fit into the role of “caretaker,” BUT he DID take care of Frodo’s garden, AND he DID take care of Frodo when he couldn’t take care of himself anymore. So, I’m going with it. Samwise is the O.G. best friend. Amazing.

Who are your favorite fictional caretakers out there?
